Tourism in Jingdezhen

Jingdezhen, the world-renowned porcelain metropolis, is one of the 24 great cities of historical and cultural interest proclaimed by the state council of China. It has a porcelain making history of over 1700 years, which has been crystalized into it¡¯s rich cultural tradition of ceramics. Rare ceramic relics, superb ceramic craftsmanship, unique ceramie customs, graceful performance of ceramic musical instruments and beautiful rural scenery make up the peculiar tourist culture of Jingdezhen,and hence make Jingdezhen the only Chinese tourist city featuring ceramic culture. In 1997, Jingdezhen was conferred one of china¡¯s 35 first-choice fourist spots.

With 20 year¡¯s continuous efforts, Jingdezhen¡¯s tourism has shaped and a complete tourist service system has been established covering board, lodging, transportation, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment. Scenic spots already open to the tourists including Kaolin Mountain, the birthplace of Kaolin;Dragon Pearl Pavilion, the imperial ceramic kiln site of Ming and Qing Dynasties; Guyao ceramic work shop, a¡°living museum¡±demonsrating the complete tradifional porcelain making process; the museum of ceramic History, a collective reservation of folk architectural complexes of Ming and Qing Dynasties; the ceramic museum where Jingdezhen¡¯s ceramic masterpieces since five dynasties are collected and displayed; Jingdezhen Ceramic Archaeological Institute where the latest archaeological findings are exhibited. All these scenic spots provide tourists a variety of beauty appreciation, recreation, participation and instruction. Leping Tourist Zone includes such scenic spots as the Ancient Stage and Hongyuan wonderland, which will show you the architectural of ancient stages, the cultural peculiarity in the local folk drama as well as an impressive Karst landscape.

Jingdezhen is located among ¡°six mountains and two lakes¡±(Mount Hang, Mount Lu, Mount Sanqing, Mount Dragon&tiger, Mount Jiuhua, Mount Wuyi, Qiandao Lake and Boyang Lake), and is geographically advantageous as a tourist area. Transportation here is very convenient. For Jingdezhen is an important station on the railway of Anhui to Jiangxi. Flights to Beijing, shanghai and Guangzhou are available. Its expressway extends to Jiujiang, Nanchang, Wuhan, etc. The city boasts a satisfactory variety of tourist service institutions: seven 3-star and 2-star hotels and eight travel agencies.
